Relaxing Stiff Joints and Muscles

Hot and cold compresses can help reduce arthritis symptoms. Hot compresses help relax muscles and stimulate blood flow to the part of your body that is in pain. To apply heat, a warm, moist towel works well, and some like microwavable hot packs. Remember to never make it too hot as you do not want to burn your skin. standing in the shower is a great way to get heat to a troubled area with warm water bathing the painful area soothing your stiff joints. Almost everyone enjoys hot tubs for relaxing stiff joints and muscles.

Alternatively, cold compresses reduce joint swelling and inflammation with the application of a cool compress or ice pack to the affected area of your back, neck or joint. Apply cold compress for no longer than 15 minutes at a time with 30-minute breaks between applications.

Remember to avoid hot tubs or spas if you have high blood pressure, heart disease, or are pregnant, and always check with your health-care provider before embarking on any radical changes to your lifestyle.
